Conservation tillage has been widely adopted as an important and promising sustainable crop management option for mitigation of global climate warming. Although its effects on fluxes in greenhouse gases (GHGs) have been widely studied, contrasting results have been reported, where impacts of reduced and no tillage are unclear. [...]

Urban design is currently promoting the inclusion of plants in buildings. However, plants emit biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs), which alone or in combination with other airborne molecules such as CO2, may result in a general increase in tropospheric pollution. [...]

Terrestrial vegetation growth is stimulated by rising atmospheric CO2 concentration, a warmer climate, and increased soil nutrient availability. However, as plants age, progressive nutrient limitation is known to occur, especially in mature forests where soil nitrogen is deficient. [...]

Crossing certain aridity thresholds in global drylands can lead to abrupt decays of ecosystem attributes such as plant productivity, potentially causing land degradation and desertification. It is largely unknown, however, whether these thresholds can be altered by other key global change drivers known to affect the water-use efficiency and productivity of vegetation, such as elevated CO2 and nitrogen (N). By enabling rapid, cost-effective, user-friendly and in situ detection of carbon dioxide, colorimetric CO2 sensors are of relevance for a variety of fields. However, it still remains a challenge the development of optical chemosensors for CO2 that combine high sensitivity, selectivity and reusability with facile integration into solid materials. [...]
