9 p, 1.8 MB New magnetotelluric data through the boundary between the Ossa Morena and Centroiberian Zones / Muñoz, G. (Universitat de Barcelona. Departament de Geodinàmica i Geofísica) ; Heise, W. (Geological and Nuclear Sciences) ; Paz, C. (Universidade de Lisboa. Centro de Geofísica) ; Almeida, E. (Instituto Politécnico de Tomar and Escola Superior de Abrantes) ; Monteiro Santos, F. (Universidade de Lisboa. Centro de Geofísica) ; Pous, J. (Universitat de Barcelona. Departament de Geodinàmica i Geofísica)
The south-western part of the Iberian Peninsula, including the southern branch of the Iberian Massif, has recently been the subject of several magnetotelluric (MT) studies. This area is made up of three different tectonic terranes: the South Portuguese Zone (SPZ), the Ossa Morena Zone (OMZ) and the Central Iberian Zone (CIZ). [...]

15 p, 985.8 KB Origin of a restraining bend in an evolving strike-slip system : The Cenozoic As Pontes basin (NW Spain) / Santanach i Prat, Pere F. 1946- (Universitat de Barcelona. Departament de Geodinàmica i Geofísica) ; Ferrús Antón, Beatriz (Universitat de Barcelona. Departament de Geodinàmica i Geofísica) ; Cabrera, Lluís (Universitat de Barcelona. Departament d'Estratigrafia, Paleontologia i Geociències Marines) ; Sáez, A. (Universitat de Barcelona. Departament d'Estratigrafia, Paleontologia i Geociències Marines)
The As Pontes basin (12 km2), NW Iberian Peninsula, is bounded by a double restraining bend of a dextral strike-slip fault, which is related to the western onshore end of the Pyrenean belt. Surface and subsurface data obtained from intensive coal exploration and mining in the basin since the 1960s together with additional structural and stratigraphic sequence analysis allowed us to determine the geometric relationships between tectonic structures and stratigraphic markers. 10 p, 1.1 MB From strike-slip to reverse reactivation : the Crevillente Fault System and seismicity in the Bullas-Mula area (Betic Cordillera, SE Spain) / Sanz de Galdeano, C. (Universidad de Granada. Facultad de Ciencias) ; Buforn, E. (Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Departamento de Geofísica y Meteorología) ; Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (Espanya). Instituto Andaluz de Ciencias de la Tierra
Several major N80ºE faults occur in the Bullas-Mula area (SE Spain). These faults and the numerous thrust slices of the Sierra de Ricote can be related to the movements of the Crevillente (or Cadiz-Alicante) fault system, which causes the westward displacement of the Betic Internal Zone and part of the External Zone. 21 p, 1.5 MB Analogue Modelling of Inverted Oblique Rift Systems / Amilibia, A. (University of London. Fault Dynamics Research Group) ; McClay, K. R. (University of London. Fault Dynamics Research Group) ; Sàbat i Montserrat, Francesc (Universitat de Barcelona. Departament de Geodinàmica i Geofísica) ; Muñoz, J. A. (Universitat de Barcelona. Departament de Geodinàmica i Geofísica) ; Roca, E. (Universitat de Barcelona. Departament de Geodinàmica i Geofísica)
The geometric evolution of brittle fault systems in inverted oblique and offset rift systems has been simulated using scaled sandbox analogue models. Dry fine-grained quartz sand was used to represent the brittle upper crust. [...]

22 p, 1.5 MB Emplacement of Cuban Ophiolites / Universidad de Pinar del Río. Departamento de Geología
According to their lithological and structural characteristics, three ophiolite bearing structural units are recognized in Cuba: 1) The Northern Ophiolitic Belt, a complex mélange that stretches more than 1000 km along the island; 2) The metamorphic basement of the Cretaceous Volcanic Arc Terrane; and 3) The tectonic slices in the high pressure metamorphic Escambray (Guamuhaya) Massif of south central Cuba. Departament d'Estratigrafia, Paleontologia i Geociències Marines) ; Robles, J. M. (Palaeotheria S.C.P.)
The decapod burrow Spongeliomorpha sudolica occurs associated with transgressive firmgrounds in the transition between Aragonian continental red beds and Langhian marine units in some of the inner sectors of the Vallès-Penedès Basin. [...]
