21 p, 1.4 MB Impact of biostimulation and bioaugmentation as bioremediation systems on diesel contaminated soils / Abraham, Juliana (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament d'Enginyeria Química, Biològica i Ambiental) ; Gea Leiva, Teresa (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament d'Enginyeria Química, Biològica i Ambiental) ; Vicent i Huguet, Teresa (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament d'Enginyeria Química, Biològica i Ambiental)
This paper analyzes and compares the effects of bioremediation on total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) degradation using composting techniques as well as biostimulation and bioaugmentation approaches. Compost and sludge were added as organic amendments with the dual purpose of providing both nutrients and microorganisms to the contaminated soil. [...]

The use of microalgal consortia for urban wastewater treatment is an increasing trend, as it allows simultaneous nutrient removal and biomass production. Emerging contaminants proposed for the list of priority substances such as the hormone 17β-estradiol are commonly found in urban wastewater, and their removal using algal monocultures has been accomplished. [...]

Departament d'Enginyeria Química, Biològica i Ambiental) ; Castro, Paula M. L. (Universidade Católica Portuguesa. Escola Superior de Biotecnologia)
An aerobic granular bioreactor was operated for over 4 months, treating a synthetic wastewater with a high ammonium content (100 mg N L⁻¹). The inoculum was collected from a bioreactor performing simultaneous partial nitrification and aromatic compounds biodegradation. [...]

Departament d'Enginyeria Química, Biològica i Ambiental) ; Sanchez, Antoni (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament d'Enginyeria Química, Biològica i Ambiental)
The degradation of several polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in soil through composting was investigated. The selected PAHs included: fluorene, phenanthrene, anthracene, fluoranthene, pyrene, benzo(a)anthracene, and chrysene, with concentrations simulating a real creosote sample. [...]
