The understanding of the dynamics of a glass above its devitrification temperature remains incomplete. Here, we build a spatio-temporal map of the relaxation dynamics of a highly stable glass into its supercooled liquid using real-time atomic force microscopy imaging. [...]

Amb el pas del temps, els vidres es reestructuren cap a configuracions més estables que poden afectar les seves propietats. Ultrastable glasses (mostly prepared from the vapor phase under optimized deposition conditions) represent a unique class of materials with low enthalpies and high kinetic stabilities. These highly stable and dense glasses show unique physicochemical properties, such as high thermal stability, improved mechanical properties or anomalous transitions into the supercooled liquid, offering unprecedented opportunities to understand many aspects of the glassy state. Organic light-emitting diodes with ultrastable glass emission layers show increased efficiency and device stability. Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) are one of the key solid-state light sources for various applications including small and large displays, automotive lighting, solid-state lighting, and signage. Kinetic processes involving intermediate phase formation are often assumed to follow an Arrhenius temperature dependence. This behavior is usually inferred from limited data over narrow temperature intervals, where the exponential dependence is generally fully satisfied. [...]

The thermodynamics of hydrogen absorption in Pd-capped Mgfilms are strongly dependent on the magnesium thickness. In the present work, we suppress such dependency by inserting a thin Ti layer between Mg and Pd. [...]

The kinetics of intermediate phase formation between ultrathin films of Pd (12 nm) and single-crystalline Si (100) is monitored by in-situ nanocalorimetry at ultrafast heating rates. The heat capacity curves show an exothermic peak related to the formation of Pd2Si. [...]

We tune the thermodynamics of hydrogen absorption in Mg by means of elastic clamping. The loading isotherms measured by hydrogenography show that Mg films covered with Mg-alloy-forming elements, such as Pd and Ni, have hydrogen plateau pressures more than 2 orders of magnitude higher than bulk Mg at the same temperature.
