Institute of Electrical Engineering) ; Gömöry, Fedor (Slovak Academy of Sciences. Institute of Electrical Engineering) ; Prat Camps, Jordi (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Cloaking a three-dimensional object in free space from electromagnetic waves has recently become a theoretical possibility, although practical implementations can only be made in reduced schemes. If static fields are involved, requirements are less restrictive and some practical realizations have been possible. [...]

Important modifications on the magnetization loops of the superconductor have been observed in superconductor-ferromagnet hybrids due to the effects of the ferromagnetic components, which can be used for tuning the superconductor critical-current density Jc to desirable values. [...]

5 p, 1.2 MB Controlling vortex chirality and polarity by geometry in magnetic nanodots / Agramunt Puig, Sebastià (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Física) ; Valle Benedí, Nuria del (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Física) ; Navau Ros, Carles (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Física) ; Sánchez Moreno, Álvaro (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Física)
The independent control of both vortex chirality and polarity is a significant challenge in magnetic devices based on nano-sized magnetic vortex structures. By micromagnetic simulations here, we show that in soft ferromagnetic nanodots with an adequate modulated thickness, the desired combination of chirality and polarity can be achieved just by changing the direction of the in-plane applied magnetic field. [...]

Departament Física i Enginyeria Nuclear) ; Tejada, J. (Universitat de Barcelona. Departament Física Fonamental) ; American Physical Society
We have measured and calculated the magnetocaloric effect in macroscopic samples of oriented high-spin molecular clusters like Mn12 and Fe8 as a function of the temperature and both the intensity and the sweeping rate of the applied magnetic field. [...]

Departament de Física) ; Schuller, Ivan K. (University of California, San Diego. Department of Physics) ; American Physical Society
An approach to image the domains and domain walls of small ferromagnetic entities using atomic force microscopy(AFM), with a nonmagnetic AFM probe, has been developed. Exciting the sample in an external acmagnetic field, the distribution of magnetostrictive response at the surface is detected. [...]

We propose a mechanism for achieving bidirectional spin pumping in conventional nonmagnetic semiconductorresonant tunnelingheterostructures under zero magnetic field. The device is designed specifically to take advantage of the special spin configuration described by the Rashba effect in asymmetric quantum wells. [...]

The asymmetric magnetization reversal in exchange biased Fe/MnF2 involves coherent (Stoner-Wohlfarth) magnetization rotation into an intermediate, stable state perpendicular to the applied field. We provide here the experimentally tested analytical conditions for the unambiguous observation of both longitudinal and transverse magnetization components using the magneto-optical Kerr effect. The magnetization reversal in Permalloy (Py) and Py-IrMn disks (1μm diameter) is investigated. The Py disks reverse their magnetization via vortex state formation. Conversely, if the Py-IrMn disks are field cooled from above the blocking temperatureTB, a critical angle with respect to the cooling direction is set, beyond which the vortex no longer nucleates. [...]

Orthorhombic YMnO3epitaxialthin films were grown on Nb(0. 5%)-doped SrTiO3(001) substrates. Film's thickness was varied to tune the epitaxial strain. Structural and magnetic properties are well correlated, presenting a more pronounced ferromagnetic behavior as the unit cell becomes more distorted. [...]
