26 p, 2.3 MB Modulation of population density and size of silver nanoparticles embedded in bacterial cellulose : via ammonia exposure: visual detection of volatile compounds in a piece of plasmonic nanopaper / Heli, B. (Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia) ; Morales-Narváez, Eden (Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia) ; Golmohammadi, Hamed (ACECR-Production Technology Institute) ; Ajji, A. (Polytechnique Montréal. Département de Génie Chimique) ; Merkoçi, Arben (Institució Catalana de Recerca i Estudis Avançats)
The localized surface plasmon resonance exhibited by noble metal nanoparticles can be sensitively tuned by varying their size and interparticle distances. We report that corrosive vapour (ammonia) exposure dramatically reduces the population density of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) embedded within bacterial cellulose, leading to a larger distance between the remaining nanoparticles and a decrease in the UV-Vis absorbance associated with the AgNP plasmonic properties. [...]

ETSI Agronomica, Alimentaria y de Biosistemas) ; Garcia-Gutieŕrez, Carlos (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. ETSI Agronomica, Alimentaria y de Biosistemas)
Particle-size distribution (PSD) is a fundamental soil property usually reported as discrete clay, silt, and sand percentages. Models and methods to effectively generate a continuous PSD from such poor descriptions using another property would be extremely useful to predict and understand in fragmented distributions, which are ubiquitous in nature. [...]
