This research project studies phytoremediation processes for cadmium contaminated soils, specifically phytoextraction, where a metal-tolerant plant species hyperaccumulate the target metal. The experimental design is based on Arabidopsis halleri, recorded as the highest hyperaccumulator in cadmium, with the objective of determining absorption and compartmentalization mechanisms in hydroponic solution and test the viability of its phytoextraction capabilities in cadmium contaminated soils.
