In this study, 338 microorganisms, comprising 271 bacteria and 67 fungi, were isolated from sediment samples collected from underexplored Pacific and Caribbean regions of Colombia. Screening trials were conducted on selected strains (n = 276) to assess their tolerance to cadmium (Cd2+), lead (Pb2+), and zinc (Zn2+), leading to the identification of six bacteria capable of withstanding 750 mg·L−1 of each heavy metal ion. Fe-based alloys are being studied as potential candidates for biodegradable implants; however, their degradation rates remain too slow. To accelerate biodegradation while simultaneously hindering biofilm formation, a ZnO coating was deposited onto porous equiatomic FeMn alloy discs by sol-gel method using dip coating. [...]

The design of artificial helicoidal molecules derived from metal ions with biological properties is one of the objectives within metallosupramolecular chemistry. Herein, we report three zinc helicates derived from a family of bis thiosemicarbazone ligands with different terminal groups, Zn(L Me)∙2HO 1, Zn(L Ph)∙2HO 2 and Zn(L PhNO2) 3, obtained by an electrochemical methodology. Zinc oxide rod structures are synthetized and subsequently modified with Au, FeO, or CuO to form nanoscale interfaces at the rod surface. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy corroborates the presence of Fe in the form of oxide-FeO; Cu in the form of two oxides-CuO and CuO, with the major presence of CuO; and Au in three oxidation states-Au 3+, Au +, and Au 0, with the content of metallic Au being the highest among the other states. Cancer initiation and progression are driven by genetic and epigenetic changes. Although genome/exome sequencing has significantly contributed to the characterization of the genetic driver alterations, further investigation is required to systematically identify cancer driver genes regulated by promoter hypermethylation.
