Educar para la convivencia intercultural en sociedades multiculturales

Abstract:	Nuestras sociedades actuales son irrevocablemente cada vez más multiculturales. En esa realidad, plural en todos los planos, están llamadas a vivir, sobre todo, las actuales y futuras jóvenes generaciones. En ese estado de cosas, no es equivocado afirmar que la suerte de la vida personal y social de nuestro tiempo y del venidero depende más que nunca de la capacidad de las personas para «saber convivir» armónicamente con los múltiples y diferentes Otros en los distintos ámbitos de la realidad cotidiana. En esta perspectiva, el reto quizá mayor de la educación actual consiste en lograr que los niños y jóvenes, particularmente, «aprendan a vivir juntos ». Ese objetivo, sin embargo, sólo puede conseguirse de forma sólida, positiva y enriquecedora si, en lugar de contentarse con tolerarse en una relación de mera coexistencia, se cultivan un conjunto de valores profundos enraizados en una educación moral deferente y responsable con la alteridad de cualquier Otro, próximo o lejano, parecido o diferente. Ese es el reto que debe acometer una educación intercultural en el siglo nuevo ya comenzado.
Abstract:	Our present societies are irrevocably more and more multicultural. The present and future rising generations are called to live in that plural reality in all the levels. To this effect, it is not mistaken to affirm that the fate which awaits the personal and social life of our time and of the future depends more than ever on the capacity of the people to «know how to live together» harmonically with many and different Others in the various fields of the daily reality. Of this perspective, the greater challenge of the present education perhaps consists of managing the children and young people to «learn to live in harmony». That objective, nevertheless, only can with following itself of solid and positive form if, instead of being contented with tolerate each other in a relation of mere coexistence, a set of deep values are cultivated by means of a (moral) education that prioritize an unconditional acceptance, responsible concern, and deference to any Other, next or distant, seemed or different. That is the challenge that must undertake the intercultural education in the new century already begun.
