Como es conocido, los acontecimientos de la Primera Guerra Mundial influyeron social e institucionalmente en el deporte en Europa y fueron utilizados para capitalizar las capacidades productivas de la juventud. En el caso de España, la educación física y el deporte también recibieron estas influencias, que singularmente fueron muy bien recibidas entre el estamento militar. Considerando el contexto de esta influencia, en este artículo se trata el alcance social de la Escuela Central de Gimnasia del Ejército de Infantería de Toledo (1919-1930) a través de la contribución bibliográfica en torno a la gimnástica, la educación física y el deporte. Por lo tanto, el objeto de estudio se centra en desarrollar el proceso de institucionalización de las actividades gimnásticas y deportivas en el ejército y, también, el de valorar su alcance social durante los años veinte del siglo pasado, especialmente bajo la influencia de la dictadura del general Miguel Primo de Rivera (1923-1930). Nos apoyamos en la metodología heurística, basada principalmente en la búsqueda de fuentes documentales primarias. Una revisión documental de las obras editadas bajo la influencia militar permite analizar los textos -en una interpretación hermenéutica- y contextualizar el marco histórico social de la época en la configuración de las actividades gimnásticas y deportivas en el ejército. La Escuela Central de Gimnasia del Ejército vertió un significativo carácter militar en la educación física escolar y popularizó el deporte entre la juventud. No obstante, se establece que a partir de la Escuela Central de Gimnasia del Ejército se idearon un conjunto de estrategias nacionalizadoras que aspiraban a vincular la vida militar con la civil y que utilizaron el deporte y la educación física para garantizar el orden y la paz social. Con este estudio deseamos contribuir a la escasa información crítica que existe sobre la Escuela Central de Gimnasia, en un momento en el que se cumple el centenario de su creación. |

As it is already known, the events of The First World War influenced sport in Europe, socially and institutionally, and they were used to capitalize on the productive forces of youth. In the case of Spain, physical education and sports also received these influences, which were singularly well received among the military establishment. Considering the context of this influence, in this article discusses the social scope of the Spanish Army's Toledo Central School of Gymnastics (1919-1930) through bibliographic contribution concerning gymnastics, physical education and sports. Thus, the study focusses on a deeper understanding of the process by which gymnastics and sports activities were institutionalised in the army and, also, on assessing their scope on the civilian population as a whole, during the twenties of the last century, especially under the influence of the dictatorship of General Miguel Primo de Rivera (1923-1930). We rest on the heuristic methodology, based principally on the search of documentary primary sources. A documentary review of the works published under military influence allows us to analyse the texts -hermeneutic interpretation- and contextualise the historical social during the twenties of the last century in the configuration of gymnastics and sports activity in the army. This Central School of Gymnastics poured a significant military seal on school physical education and popularized sport among youth. However, we establish that, from this Central School of Gymnastics, a set of nationalising strategies were designed that aspired to link military and civil life and that used sport and physical education to guarantee order and social peace. |
