Abstract:	Examinamos algunos textos de narrativa breve producidos en Venezuela a comienzos del siglo XXI, con el objetivo de comprender la memoria social que se construye y se registra; develar los fenómenos, procesos, prácticas y actores sociales resaltados en sus temáticas; y analizar el papel que juega este género literario sobre el imaginario colectivo para crear, cuestionar o ampliar los sentidos existentes alrededor de la vida privada y colectiva en el país. Analizamos relatos, publicados por escritores venezolanos entre 2004 y 2012. Es una investigación de la imagología literaria, que implicó el estudio hermenéutico de la imagen en el imaginario literario y social relativo a la representación del "otro". Nos acercamos a la memoria social que se construye en la Venezuela contemporánea a través de la narrativa; sus contenidos nos han provisto de referentes que hablan de la identidad del país, los venezolanos y de mundos alternos creados por la ficción.
Abstract:	We examine short stories produced in Venezuela at the beginning of the 21st century, with the aim of understanding how social memory is constructed and recorded. In this endeavor we uncover the phenomena, processes, customs and actors that appear as themes in these productions. We analyze the role that literary narrative has in relation to collective imagination. This includes creating, questioning, and extending the already-existing significance of private and collective life in the country. We analyze done stories published by Venezuelan writers between 2004-2012. This research can be classified in the line of literary imagology. This involves the hermeneutic study of literary images within the framework of fictional and social imaginary relative to the representation of the "other". Our approach to the representation of contemporary Venezuelan social memory through narrative refers to both the country's identity and that of its inhabitants, and of alternate fictional worlds.
