The idea for this thesis emerged from the results of a previous study with a small patient sample which assessed the deposition of asbestos in the lung in residents of the city of Barcelona. Using light microscopy (LM), we also aimed to establish accurate, reproducible reference levels of asbestos in the lung in the Spanish population, in order to allow routine analyses of asbestos bodies (AB).
