Analytic compartmental models are currently used in mathematical epidemiology to forecast the COVID-19 pandemic evolution and explore the impact of mitigation strategies. In general, such models treat the population as a single entity, losing the social, cultural and economical specificities. [...]

Department of Mathematics and Statistics) ; McGuinness, Mark J. (Victoria University of Wellington. Statistics and Operations Research)
A four compartment model of the cardiovascular system is developed. To allow for easy interpretation and to minimise the number of parameters, an effort was made to keep the model as simple as possible. [...]

20 p, 986.1 KB Parameter estimation of S-distributions with alternating regression / Chou, I-Chun (Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University) ; Martens, Harald (Norwegian U. of Life Sciences) ; Voit, Eberhard O. (Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University)
We propose a novel 3-way alternating regression (3-AR) method as an effective strategy for the estimation of parameter values in S-distributions from frequency data. The 3-AR algorithm is very fast and performs well for error-free distributions and artificial noisy data obtained as random samples generated from S-distributions, as well as for traditional statistical distributions and for actual observation data. Department of Economics) ; Guillén, Montserrat (Universitat de Barcelona. Departament d'Econometria) ; Xarxa de Referència en Economia Aplicada (XREAP)
We present a real data set of claims amounts where costs related to damage are recorded separately from those related to medical expenses. Only claims with positive costs are considered here. Two approaches to density estimation are presented: a classical parametric and a semi-parametric method, based on transformation kernel density estimation. [...]
