Comress was established in 2009 to bring together researchers interested in the social and
ethical aspects of media communication. Over time, the areas of research have expanded to include topics such as media narratives, communication on social networks, communication and gender issues, the sensationalisation of society, communicative and cultural content, and corporate social responsibility. Recent topics that Comress has focused on include climate change narratives (through the
YouthEcoNarratives project), processes of
depatriarchalisation in cultural spheres, and
media literacy. Comress is an
interdepartmental and
interuniversity group based at the UAB's Department of Media, Communication and Culture, comprising
twelve women and three men.
