Geologica Acta
Geologica Acta (ISSN 1695-6133 / 1696-5728 e-ISSN) is an institutional open access journal, international and a general profile of Earth Sciences. The journal welcomes articles from both conceptual and regional levels, with special emphasis on areas of the Mediterranean, South America and the Caribbean, but without considering contributions from any region. Also encouraged the publication of theme issues that give the results of projects and international scientific meetings.

25 p, 10.3 MB Paleogene kinematics of the central Catalan Coastal Ranges : temporal constraints from magneto-chronology and provenance analysis in synorogenic deposits in the SE margin of the Ebro Basin (NE Spain) / Marín, Miquel (Universitat de Barcelona. Institut de Recerca Geomodels) ; Carola, Eloi (Universitat de Barcelona. Institut de Recerca Geomodels) ; Beamud, E (Universitat de Barcelona. Institut de Recerca Geomodels) ; Bover-Arnal, Telm (Universitat de Barcelona. Institut de Recerca Geomodels) ; López-Blanco, Miguel (Universitat de Barcelona. The precise determination of the tectonic deformation timing such as thrust emplacement has always been a challenge for understanding the evolution of fold-and-thrust belts. In the Catalan Coastal Ranges, this issue has traditionally been addressed through the mapping and the analysis of the syn-tectonic successions preserved in the SE margin of the Ebro Basin. [...]

32 p, 40.4 MB Latest Barremian - early Aptian chronostratigraphy and sedimentary evolution of the northwestern Maestrat Basin / García Penas, Álvaro (Universidad Zaragoza) ; Zamora, Samuel (Instituto Geológico y Minero de España) ; Moreno Bedmar, Josep Anton (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) ; Calvin, Pablo (Instituto Geológico y Minero de España de España) ; Aurell, Marcos (Universidad Zaragoza)
Some aspects on the age and correlation of the upper Barremian-lower Aptian stratigraphic units of the NW Maestrat Basin were uncertain prior to this study, due to the differing lithostratigraphy of the marginal Oliete subbasin compared to the more depocentral Galve and Morella subbasins. [...]

The origin of the obliquity of the structures at the eastern end of the central South-Pyrenean salient is investigated by means of Paleomagnetism. Earlier paleomagnetic data in the area are poorly distributed and insufficient to describe in detail the amount and age of vertical axis-rotations affecting the region. [...]

15 p, 3.5 MB New spider crabs (Brachyura, Majoidea) from the early Eocene of Spain with a reassignment of the species "Periacanthus" tetracornis / Ferratges, Fernando Ari (Instituto Geológico y Minero de España)
Spider crabs (superfamily Majoidea Samouelle, 1819) represent a highly diverse group within Eubrachyura de Saint Laurent, 1980. This study re-examines the species "Periacanthus" tetracornis Ferratges, Ortega Fernández, Moreno and Maza, 2014 (Roda Formation, lower Eocene of Spain) which was previously consider as a member of Epialtidae MacLeay, 1838 and it is included as a new genus of majoid crabs, Eoactinotocarcinu n. [...]

The middle-upper Campanian Allueva Formation is located in the continental Montalbán subbasin (NE Spain) at the onset of the Alpine compression. This formation consists of alluvial terrigenous sediments, but it is locally dominated by carbonates and microbialites, which are the main focus of this study. [...]

Whereas post-mortem bioerosional features such as bivalve, sponge or worm borings are frequently preserved in ancient corals, reports of ante-mortem skeletal anomalies are rare and virtually non-existent from Mesozoic specimens. [...]

(Federal University of Technology (Nigèria)) ; Agbasi, Okechukwu Ebuka (Heritage Polytechnic (Nigèria)) ; Ibuot, Johnson C. (University of Nigeria)
Seismic refraction methods are vital in geophysical investigations to reveal subsurface geological structures. This study focuses on the Ini Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, analyzing geological features beneath the surface, with emphasis on seismic velocities and layer thicknesses. [...]
