The material requirements for gamma-ray detectors for medical imaging applications are multi-fold and sensitivity is often overlooked. High effective atomic number (Z) Cherenkov radiators have raised the attention in the community due to their potential for harvesting prompt photons. [...]

A theoretical analysis of the semileptonic decays η(')→ πl+l- and η'→ ηl+l-

Royo, Emilio (Institut de Física d'Altes Energies)
A complete theoretical analysis of the C- conserving semileptonic decays η→ πll and η→ ηll (l= e or μ) is carried out within the framework of the Vector Meson Dominance (VMD) model. An existing phenomenological model is used to parametrise the VMD coupling constants and the associated numerical values are obtained from an optimisation fit to V→ Pγ and P→ Vγ radiative decays (V= ρ, ω, ϕ and P= π, η, η). [...]

Sensitivity of the η (') →π0γγ and η' →ηγγ decays to a sub-GeV leptophobic U (1)B boson

Royo, Emilio (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Física)
The sensitivity of the rare decays η(')→π0γγ and η'→ηγγ to signatures of a leptophobic B boson in the MeV-GeV mass range is analyzed in this work. By adding an explicit B-boson resonance exchange, η→Bγ→π0γγ, to the Standard Model contributions from vector and scalar meson exchanges, and employing experimental data for the associated branching ratios, it allows us to improve the current constraints on the B-boson mass mB and coupling to Standard Model particles αB. In theories with a warped extra dimension, composite fermions, as e. g. the right-handed top quark, can be very strongly coupled to Kaluza-Klein (KK) fields. In particular, the KK gluons in the presence of such composite fields become very broad resonances, thus remarkably modifying their experimental signatures. [...]

π0-η-η' mixing from V → Pγ and P → Vγ decays

Escribano, Rafel (Institut de Física d'Altes Energies) ;

An enhanced phenomenological model that includes isospin-symmetry breaking is presented in this letter. The model is then used in a number of statistical fits to the most recent experimental data for the radiative transitions VPγ (V=ρ, K, ω, ϕ and P=π, K, η, η) and estimations for the mixing angles amongst the three pseudoscalar states with vanishing third-component of isospin are obtained. Background: The renewed interest in BGO scintillators for TOF-PET is driven by the improved Cherenkov photon detection with new blue-sensitive SiPMs. However, the slower scintillation light from BGO causes significant time walk with leading edge discrimination (LED), which degrades the coincidence time resolution (CTR).
