L’Observatori de la Tordera is an interdisciplinary project linked to Biodiversity, Global Change and Conservation (Nycticorax) research group at ICTA-UAB launched in 1996 with the main objective to define indicators of fluvial ecosystems status.
Medium and long term monitoring assessment provides data related to river quality status, which is essential for the knowledge and detection of changes in the context of the river basin, as well as to implement suitable management measures. The research focuses on the monitoring or continued registration of biological, hydrological, hydromorphological and physicochemical indicators in order to obtain long data series in time which allow to systematically evaluate the quality status in the context of the Water Framework Directive (WFD), as well as to understand changes in the dynamics of river ecosystems. In a transversal way, the Environmental Education, Communication and Training Program (PROECA), created in 2004, aims to promote participation and social learning processes and to transfer the acquired knowledge in the different research lines of L’Observatori from the scientific sphere to society: at a citizenship level, at a scientist and academic level, and at a governmental level. |
