Abstract:	El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo realizar una aproximación a la única novela que publicara José Miguel García Ascot, de título La muerte empieza en Polanco (1986). Se realiza, en primer lugar, un análisis formal y narratológico del texto, para, a continuación, resaltar las claves interpretativas del mismo, el sentido y la función de las numerosas referencias literarias, cinematográficas y autobiográficas, lo que conduce a una valoración de la originalidad y aportaciones del texto en el conjunto del género negro y de la novela policial latinoamericana. En ese sentido, por el planteamiento de un argumento criminal con implicaciones de política internacional en el contexto de la guerra fría, La muerte empieza en Polanco ocupa un lugar excepcional dentro de lo que se ha denominado el "neopolicial" latinoamericano.
Abstract:	The present work aims to make an approximation to the only novel published by José Miguel García Ascot, entitled La muerte empieza en Polanco (1986). First, a formal and narratological analysis of the text is carried out, in order to highlight the interpretative keys of the text, the meaning and the function of the numerous literary, cinematographic and autobiographical references, which leads to an assessment of the originality and contributions of the text in the whole black genre and the Latin American crime novel. In this sense, because of the approach of a criminal argument with international policy implications in the context of the Cold War, La muerte empieza en Polanco occupies an exceptional place within what has been called the Latin American "neopolicial".
