Additional title: Skin allografts
Date: 2025
Abstract: Skin allografts (SA) represent an excellent therapeutic option for the coverage of complex wounds, including those with exposure of critical structures, and are particularly useful in patients with severe burns. By definition, they are considered temporary coverings; however, in certain specific cases, they can function as an intermediate or bridging coverage by incorporating the dermal component into the recipient and fina-lizing with an autograft, and even as definitive coverage by acting as dermal regenerators. Unfortunately, due to their limited availability, their historical use has been almost exclusively restricted to burn patients in specialized centers, resulting in experience limited to a small number of medical teams. However, the current use of dermal-fat flaps obtained from body contouring surgeries as a source of CA has increased the access and availability of this resource. The objective of this work is to present the characteristics and indications of CA.
