Abstract: The coprophagous beetle fauna of Val de San Román, León, across three different habitats (grassland, conifer plantation, and an oak patch) was sampled using dung-baited pitfall traps. The dung fauna of Val de San Román is typical of a recent Mediterranean fauna, being dominated by Aphodiinae and Onthophagus species. Forty-three species were collected of which 20 were strictly dung associates: comprising the hydrophilid genera Cercyon and Sphaeridium, and coprophilous staphylinid genera Anotylus and Tachinus. Three species of Coleoptera were recorded for the first time for León. However, none of the larger scarabaeoids were recorded, despite having been present in the area within the last 50 years and whilst this in part may be due to the early season sampling, local farmers in targeted interviews have also noted the decline.
