La "memoria colectiva" es, en última instancia, rememoración pública. Y, como tal, está sujeta a articulaciones y declinaciones desde el presente. En este artículo se analiza la construcción del relato sobre el pasado traumático, la guerra civil de 1936-39, en perspectiva histórica -desde el final de la dictadura de Franco hasta la actualidad-, partiendo de las actuales demandas de rememoración y conmemoración de sus víctimas y de las pretéritas "políticas de la memoria", cuya carencia determina, junto con otros factores que aquí se analizan, que el de la guerra civil sea el pasado del cual se realiza en la actualidad un más profuso uso público en España.
