L'anàlisi detallada de la col·lecció formada per Gonzalo de Ulloa, IX comte d'Adanero, i heretada pel seu germà José María, VIII marquès de Castro Serna (l'inventari del qual es transcriu en un apèndix), així com altres fonts documentals de diversa procedència, permet l'estudi en profunditat de la seva configuració i de les seves principals obres, així com el de la posterior dispersió d'aquestes entre els seus hereus, assumpte que ha despertat gran interès entre els especialistes i els professionals del mercat de l'art en els últims anys.
