Audiovisual translation: new hybrid transfer modes, new research approaches

Abstract:	My presentation will be divided in two parts with a shared aim: to illustrate how integrating knowledge from other fields can bring new perspectives in audiovisual translation. In the first part, I will refer to EASIT, an Erasmus + project in which we have merged the concepts of easy language and audiovisual translation in order to research whether new 'hybrid' transfer modes such as 'easy audio description' or 'easy subtitles' could be produced. I will explain the work done so far in the project, which includes a survey and a series of focus groups and interviews, and I will refer to the challenges and opportunities the concept of 'easy audiovisual transfer modes' opens. In the second part of my presentation, I will focus on the RAD project as a way to show the wide array of unexplored topics that surround audio description. More specifically, I will focus on how prosodic analysis can be integrated in audio description research. The rationale behind my presentation is that we need to move beyond traditional grounds and explore new territories to better understand current practices and propose innovative proposals that cater for diverse user needs.
