Els Estats Units com a negatiu d'Europa en la literatura dramàtica catalana contemporània : tres creadors locals a la recerca d'un context global

Abstract:	En aquest article, tracto la idea de com escriure sobre els Estats Units pot fer sentir més europeus als dramaturgs catalans, ja que n'ofereixen una imatge que segueix la tradició europea d'ambivalència respecte al nou món. Les obres que s'analitzen amb aquest fi són: Després de la pluja de Sergi Belbel, Bales i ombres de Pau Miró i Marburg de Guillem Clua, tot i que cada una canalitza una imatge d'aquest país molt diferent. La urbs moderna de Belbel recorda la progressiva americanització del planeta; el western de Miró evoca vagament el Bible belt americà alhora que ressuscita la màgia del mite del cowboy; i Clua mostra la intolerància de la classe mitjana americana. El punt que tenen en contacte és que mostren els Estats Units com la figura de l'Altre que exerceix una enorme atracció, però que alhora fa molta por. Per altra banda, també comparteixen el fet d'utilitzar mites de la cultura popular nordamericana que s'han convertit en un sistema de signes fàcilment recognoscible per qualsevol altra cultura i que, en certa manera, els ajuda a connectar amb la resta d'Europa.
Abstract:	In this article I discuss how writing about the United States might make Catalan playwrights feel more European than they usually do since they offer an ambivalent image of the country that follows the European tradition of representation. The plays analyzed for this purpose are Després de la pluja by Sergi Belbel, Bales i ombres by Pau Miró and Marburg by Guillem Clua, although each of them presents a very different view of this nation. Belbel's modern metropolis suggests the progressive Americanization of the planet; Miro's western reminds us of the Bible Belt and, at the same time, brings to life once more the magic of the owboy myth; and Clua shows the social intolerance of the American middle class. The element that connects them is that they show the United States as the figure of the Other that has an enormous power of attraction but that, at the same time, is very frightening. But also they have in common the use of myths from American popular culture that have become a system of signs easily recognisable by any other culture, which, in a way, helps them connect with the rest of Europe.
