Abstract: The present study aimed at evaluating the effect of dietary acid oils on growth performance and fatty acid composition in European Seabass. A 90-day feeding trial where triplicate groups of European seabass fed eight experimental diets formulated to contain 25% of fish oil (FO) and 75% of a VO (soybean oil, olive pomace oil, soybean acid oil and olive pomace acid oil alone or in blends) and one control with 100% fish oil. Growth parameters and fish feed utilization were studied. Also a study of total fat, fatty acid composition in fillet and perivisceral fat was carried out. Results showed significant differences in growth between the animals fed crude VO and olive pomace acid oil. No differences in growth was observed between animals fed blend diets and those fed crude VO. Fatty acid composition of the fillet mirrored the dietary fatty acid composition. There were differences between control diets and experimental oil diets, between different oils sources (soy - olive), but not between blend diets. There were no differences in fatty acid composition between dorsal and ventral section of the fillet. Perivisceral fat showed a fatty acid composition similar to that of fillet ventral section. Total fat of the fillet was higher in ventral section.
