Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3)) ; Herrera-Joancomartí, Jordi (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament d'Enginyeria de la Informació i de les Comunicacions)
An efficient approach for organizing large ad hoc networks is to divide the nodes into multiple clusters and designate, for each cluster, a clusterhead which is responsible for holding intercluster control information. [...]

We measure quality of service (QoS) in a wireless network architecture of transoceanic aircraft. A distinguishing characteristic of the network scheme we analyze is that it mixes the concept of Delay Tolerant Networking (DTN) through the exploitation of opportunistic contacts, together with direct satellite access in a limited number of the nodes. The students' lack of motivation is a usual problem. The students value more the obtention of the degree than the developing of competences and skills. In order to fight this, we developed a gamification's experience based on merits and leaderboards. [...]

We have recently introduced a privacy model for statistical and machine learning models called integral privacy. A model extracted from a database or, in general, the output of a function satisfies integral privacy when the number of generators of this model is sufficiently large and diverse. [...]

Department Computing Science) ; Navarro-Arribas, Guillermo (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament d'Enginyeria de la Informació i de les Comunicacions)
Machine and statistical learning is about constructing models from data. Data is usually understood as a set of records, a database. Nevertheless, databases are not static but change over time. We can understand this as follows: there is a space of possible databases and a database during its lifetime transits this space. [...]

On-line commercial transactions involve an inherent mistrust between participant parties since, sometimes, no previous relation exists between them. Such mistrust may be a deadlock point in a trade transaction where the buyer does not want to perform the payment until the seller sends the goods and the seller does not want to do so until the buyer pays for the purchase. Department of Computing Science) ; Galván, Edgar (Maynooth University. Department of Computer Science) ; Navarro-Arribas, Guillermo (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament d'Enginyeria de la Informació i de les Comunicacions)
In this paper, we present an unified framework that encompasses both particle swarm optimization (PSO) and federated learning (FL). This unified framework shows that we can understand both PSO and FL in terms of a function to be optimized by a set of agents but in which agents have different privacy requirements. [...]
