La imagen de la maravilla : la identidad femenina en el roman de La Manekine de Philippe de Rémi

Abstract:	La maravilla se convirtió en la protagonista de un gran número de relatos de la Europa medieval, y muchos romanciers cortesanos se valieron del folklore y del exotismo que les brindaba el acceso a diversas culturas para recrear historias. Una obra que permite ilustrar este interés por lo maravilloso es La Manekine de Philippe de Rémi. La maravilla adquiere, en este caso, una función identitaria. El autor áulico utiliza el prodigio para otorgar una identidad a su heroína, convertida finalmente en la imagen de una santa. La protagonista se caracteriza por un constante anonimato. Su verdadero nombre es sustituido por otro apelativo (Manekine), que revela su carencia física (la manquedad), y que la identifica también con un maniquí. En la mutilación se cifra el reconocimiento de la protagonista, que deberá errar por el mundo de la aventura para restituir, finalmente, una identidad completa.
Abstract:	The wonder became the protagonist of a large number of stories from medieval Europe, and many courtly romanciers recreated stories based on the folklore and exoticism that their access to diverse cultures afforded them. A work that illustrates this interest in the wondrous is La Manekine by Philippe de Rémi. Here, the wonder acquires an identity-giving function: the courtly author uses it to grant an identity to his heroine, who is finally converted into the image of a saint. The protagonist is characterized by a constant anonymity: her real name is replaced by a nickname (Manekine) that reveals her physical flaw (a missing hand) and likens her to a mannequin. In the absence of a name, her mutilation becomes her sign of identity and she must wander through the world of adventure to finally restore her full identity.
