Transgresoras o sumisas a las normas establecidas, las mujeres han sido sujetos activos de la práctica arquitectónica durante toda la historia. Tal ocurre en el Medievo, con sus bien sabidas sociedades patriarcales, en donde estaba patente una clara jerarquización de lo público, dominado por los hombres, sobre lo privado, lugar de las mujeres. Así, resulta para algunos impensable que un porcentaje de las manos que construyeron las grandes obras edilicias medievales perteneciera al género relegado a la intimidad del hogar. Pero nada más lejos de la realidad: las experiencias históricas muestran que la construcción medieval fue un fenómeno de jurisdicción compartida. El propósito de este estudio es, por tanto, visibilizar el papel de las mujeres como trabajadoras de la construcción. Se partirá de una revisión bibliográfica, que permite constatar la dispersión, escasez y limitada visibilidad que ha tenido en la historiografía tradicional este tema. Con esta base, se analizarán los documentos reglamentarios, libros de fábrica, estatutos de cofradías profesionales y ordenanzas municipales, como fuentes primarias que han facilitado la comprensión del papel de la mujer dentro de las estructuras de poder y de las jerarquías sociales establecidas en el mundo laborar bajomedieval. Posteriormente, se ofrecerá una visión generalizada de las actividades realizadas en el proceso de construcción, tanto las tareas a pie de obra, como las efectuadas en el comercio y los talleres. Para ello, se ha tomado como punto de partida el análisis de las fuentes gráficas y escritas. Las imágenes que acompañan este capítulo, inusualmente tenidas en cuenta al abordar el tema, avalan la documentación y se convierten en un magnífico exponente de la cultura visual del Medioevo. Finalmente, se analizará el estipendio femenino en las labores de construcción, permitiendo constatar el lugar femenino en la edilicia bajomedieval. |

Transgressors or submissive to established norms, women have been active subjects of architectural practice throughout history. This was the case in the Middle Ages, with its well-known patriarchal societies, where a clear hierarchy of the public, dominated by men, over the private, the place of women, was evident. Thus, it seems unthinkable to some that a percentage of the hands that built the great medieval buildings belonged to the gender relegated to the intimacy of the home. But nothing could be further from the truth: historical experiences show that medieval construction was a phenomenon of shared jurisdiction. Therefore, the purpose of this work is to make visible the role of women as construction workers. The starting point will be a bibliographical review, which reveals the dispersion, scarcity, and limited visibility that this subject has had in traditional historiography. On this basis, we will analyse the regulatory documents, builindg logs, statutes of professional guilds and municipal ordinances, as primary sources that have facilitated the understanding of the role of women within the social hierarchies established in the late medieval period. Subsequently, a general overview will be given of the activities carried out in the construction process, both the tasks on site and those carried out in trades and workshops. The starting point for this is the analysis of graphic and written sources. The images that accompany this chapter, unusually considered when dealing with the subject, support the documentation and become a magnificent exponent of the visual culture of the Middle Ages. Finally, the female stipend in construction work will be analysed, making it possible to ascertain the place of women in the late medieval building industry. |
