Resum: In this article I wish to state the most important aspects of the recurrent discussion about the relation between science and the world we live in. This discussion develops, on the one hand, the fact that science with the airn of laying its foundations leads to human actions as a priori to a 11 constitution of the scientific disciplines, and, on the other, the philosophical reflection on the sense and aims of science with its ramification of a multitude of independent fields. And, finally, the discussion has also been inspired by ecology, which has manifested the dangers of uncontrolled technological development. I am also dealing with the problem of social transfonnation through technification. With reference to the concrete connections of technology with daily life I will mention the following aspects: technology and human needs, science and common speech, technology and the image of our world. The problem of evaluating technology brings up the question of the autarchy of scientific rationality and its possible reference to another instance of reason. This is the subject of the last paragraph where the dimensions of practica1 reason appear as a constituent aspect of science, as they give it its orientative objectives together with its fundamentation.
