Abstract:	In view of the future implementation of AVMS Directive (deadline 19 September 2020) by the member states of the revised Directive, this IRIS Special also provides an overview of the current state of independence of regulatory bodies in nine European countries. They look at the requirements set out by Article 30 of the AVMSD and the standards promoted by the Council of Europe, as well as at criteria such as the functional and legalindependence of the entity, its powers, the appointment procedures within the organisation and the possible appeal mechanisms. The analysis shows the level of disparity among the nine selected countries.
