Abstract:	El Bruce de John Barbour y el Wallace de Hary, los poemas sobre los héroes de la lucha por recuperar la independencia de Escocia tras la invasión inglesa de finales del s. XIII y principios del XIV, dos obras clave de la literatura medieval escocesa no gaélica, no habían sido vertidos al español hasta que lo hizo el autor de este artículo. En él se ofrece el marco histórico, se detallan las ediciones críticas empleadas y se alude a la lengua en que se redactaron los textos de partida. Asimismo, se explican las decisiones tomadas para hacer ambas traducciones, incluida la de empezar por el Bruce, dados los ecos intertextuales de esa obra en el Wallace, y se defiende la opción de utilizar prosa con algunas partes en verso y la elección de un castellano no arcaizante. Se trata el criterio para la traducción de nombres y topónimos, y se alude a los paratextos incluidos en ambas ediciones. Por lo que se refiere al punto de vista narrativo, se ponen de manifiesto las manipulaciones de los autores con respecto a la historia conocida: en el Bruce, sobre todo por lo que se omite, y en el Wallace por la alteración de la cronología y la invención de ciertos episodios, algunos adaptados del Bruce.
Abstract:	Barbour's Bruce and Hary's Wallace, the poems about the heroes in the struggle to regain Scottish independence after the English invasion at the end of the thirteenth and beginning of the fourteenth centuries -two major works of non-Gaelic Scottish medieval literature- had not been translated into Spanish until the author of this paper did so. In it, the historical setting is outlined and there is a review of the critical editions employed as well as a brief account of the language of the source texts. The decisions adopted for both translations are discussed, including the reasons for starting with The Bruce, given the intertextual echoes of that poem in The Wallace. The option for the use of prose with some sections in verse and of a non-archaizing type of Spanish is presented. The treatment of proper names and place names in translation is also dealt with, as well as the paratexts included in both publications. Regarding narrative points of view, the manipulations of both authors with respect to known historical facts are highlighted: in The Bruce, especially because of what is omitted, and in The Wallace, due to the alteration in the chronology and the invention of certain episodes, some of them adapted from The Bruce.
