Description: 12 pag.
Abstract: This chapter contains the concluding remarks to the book "Transdisciplinary Marine Research". It highlights the strengths, challenges, practices and new directions of different approaches to marine transdisciplinarity presented in the chapters of this book. Importantly, it highlights key aspects to consider in future research agendas to overcome difficulties and develop new transdisciplinary approaches in the co-production of culturally sensitive knowledge, as well as in the assessment of socio-ecological interactions that need to be incorporated into management and governance systems to effectively implement the transition to sustainable oceans and seas. Taking into account the concepts, methods and case studies in this book, transdisciplinarity in marine science is defined as a research paradigm that aims at merging different ways of knowing the sea to produce a knowledge pool grounded in science, empirical assessment, and social and cultural experiences which should inform actionable political decision-making.
