Resumen: Objective: Despite an increase in eating disorder (ED) cases identified during the COVID-19 pandemic, there are limited longitudinal studies exploring treatment outcome. The aims of the present study were: 1) to compare the clinical features of ED patients with an onset during the COVID-19 lockdown (pandemic cohort) with ED patients whose onset was previous (pre-pandemic cohort) and, 2) to compare the therapy response between these two cohorts. Method: The sample was 115 female adult ED patients. N=37 new ED cases (pandemic cohort), diagnosed during the pandemic (May 2020-May 2021); these patients did not have any previous history of an ED. N=77 ED cases (pre-pandemic cohort ) diagnosed before the COVID-19 pandemic breakout (before March 2020). All ED subtypes were included in each group. Other clinical variables were assessed. Results: At baseline, pandemic cohort were older and showed lower impulsivity, shorter duration of the ED, and better emotional regulation than pre-pandemic cohort; however, no differences were found in general psychopathology and disordered eating related severity. The pandemic cohort showed a better treatment outcome than the pre-pandemic cohort. Conclusions: Although the pandemic and pre-pandemic cohorts showed similar ED symptomatology and psychopathology features treatment outcome was more favourable in pandemic cohort.
