Resumen:	This chapter introduces the conceptual and political foundations of the volume Radical Municipalism: The Politics of the Common and the Democratization of Public Services. It begins by revisiting debates on the democratic road to socialism, focusing on critiques of statist models and drawing on the work of Poulantzas, Hall, and Keane. It then presents the 'radical municipalist hypothesis' as an open and strategic proposition that emerged from the Spanish New Municipalist wave, centred on the local scale as a key site of radical democratic transformation. The chapter subsequently develops the politics of the common as a political perspective rooted in self-government and institutional experimentation, offering an alternative to both market- and state-driven models. It explores how this perspective can inform a radical rethinking of public services and the very notion of 'the public'. Finally, the chapter outlines the structure of the book and explains the editorial choices guiding the geographical and sectoral selection of the case studies.
