Learning and individual differences : ensenyar i aprendre psicologia en anglès

Resum:	El curs 2007-2008 vam dur a terme una experiència nova a la facultat de Psicologia de la UAB: vam oferir als alumnes de segon cicle una assignatura que porta per títol Learning and Individual Differences (LID). No és una assignatura nova sinó un grup nou de la mateixa matèria que fa anys que fem en català i que s'anomena "Intervenció psicopedagògica". La LID és una optativa de l'itinerari de Psicologia de l'Educació i té tres objectius generals: 1. Que l'alumne conegui les principals variables, educatives i psicològiques, que intervenen en un procés d'ensenyament i aprenentatge. 2. Que sigui capaç d'elaborar propostes de canvi i millora d'aquest procés. 3. Que desenvolupi habilitats de comunicació acadèmica en anglès. El curs 2007-2008 a la LID s'hi van matricular 30 alumnes, que configuraven dos grups de llengua materna diferent: català (14 alumnes) i alemany (16 alumnes). Les classes de la LID es van fer sempre en anglès, que era la llengua de comunicació habitual i de treball del curs, de manera que les activitats a l'aula es van ver totes en aquesta llengua. El temari del curs era el contingut de 8 articles de recerca sobre diferències individuals i aprenentatge. Vam organitzar l'ensenyament i aprenentatge al voltant d'aquestes activitats: 1. Exposició de la professora d'un resum del contingut dels articles i examen d'elecció múltiple en acabar el curs. 2. Exposició dels alumnes d'un aspecte rellevant d'aquests articles. 3. Deures setmanals sobre el contingut dels articles. 4. Exposició d'un cas pràctic per part dels alumnes. 5. Redacció d'un informe psicoeducatiu dirigit a un altre estudiant universitari o de secundària. Aquesta era l'única activitat que els alumnes podien fer en una llengua que no fos l'anglès. D'acord amb l'opinió dels alumnes i les qualificacions que han obtingut, l'experiència ha estat positiva tant per aprendre psicologia com per practicar l'anglès acadèmic.
Resum:	During the academic year 2007-2008 a new module was offered to the last year students of the School of Psychology of the UAB. It was named "Learning and Individual Differences" (LID) and was aimed to help de student to learn both Educational Psychology and English language. A group of 30 undergraduates joined the course, half of them having German as a first language and the other half speaking Catalan. All the LID lessons were carried in English and the class assignments and other activities were written in this language. The content of the module was based on 8 research articles about learning and individual differences. Learning and teaching activities in the classroom were organized in the following five clusters: 1. The teacher presented a summary of the content of each article and at the end of the module the students sat a multiple choice examination about it. 2. The students presented interesting aspects of the articles to their classmates. 3. The students wrote weekly class assignments commenting on the content of the articles. 4. The students presented practical cases in the classroom to their classmates. 5. The students wrote a long psycho-educational report on another student and delivered it to him or her. That was the only teaching and learning activity which could be done in another language than English. According to the students' opinions and regarding their grades in the module, that course was a nice experience, able to help the students both to build new psychology knowledge and to improve their academic speaking and writing English abilities.
