Sirens (mermaids) had been scholarly studied because of their hybrid condition, fantastic animal (fishly woman, birdly woman), but one of their attributes, shortly considerated, is their musical capability, their sweet songs, linked with Patriarcal prescriptions about music and women (and the word and voice use), subject that is exposed in this paper.

10 p, 4.7 MB O símbolo contra o texto : pseudo-dionísio areopagita e irrepresentabilidade divina / Marques Samyn, Henrique
According to Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite, God remains beyond all possibilities of sensible and conceptual representation. The Creation itself, hierarchly structured, works to establish diverse ways of divine revelation, adapted to the perceptual and cognitive limitations of all creatures, so that they cannot have any immediate knowledge of God. 7 p, 3.1 MB A compreensâo mística na obra de Jâmblico de Cálcis / Vieira Neto, Ivan
Iamblichus of Chalcis was one of the last philosophers to be interested about the routes of the paganism in the IV century, trying to concíliate the mystic principles of the meidterranean religions and the philosophical conceptions of the neoplatonism to arrive it to an equal point that could answer to the yearnings of the society in that time.
In a letter to his brother Quintus (Q. Fr. , II, 10), Cicero mentions with praise the combination of ars and ingenium in Lucretius. Today is becoming a commonplace that the De Rerum Natura is a political work. [...]

35 p, 111.3 KB Climate and taxonomy underlie different elemental concentrations and stoichiometries of forest species: the optimum "biogeochemical niche" / Sardans i Galobart, Jordi (Centre de Recerca Ecològica i d'Aplicacions Forestals) ; Peñuelas, Josep (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Biologia Animal, de Biologia Vegetal i d'Ecologia)
We previously hypothesised the existence of a "biogeochemical niche" occupied by each plant species. Different species should have a specific elemental composition, stoichiometry and allocation as a consequence of their particular metabolism, physiology and structure (morphology) linked to their optimal functioning under the environmental (abiotic and biotic) conditions where they have evolved. Aim: Phosphorus (P) tends to become limiting in ageing terrestrial ecosystems, and its resorption efficiency is higher than for other elements such as nitrogen (N). We thus hypothesized that trees should store more P than those other elements such as N when tree size increases and that this process should be enhanced in slow-growing late-successional trees. 24 p, 289.8 KB Ramon Valls (1928-2011) : the agonist of «we» / Mayos Solsona, Gonçal (Universitat de Barcelona.
Like the rest of his generation, Valls was marked by the Spanish Civil War and the Francoist repression. Therefore he viewed humanity from realpolitik, pessimistic and agonistic; he searched to give a philosophical base to an "we" which would end the struggle of one against another. [...]

Departament de Biologia Animal, de Biologia Vegetal i d'Ecologia)
Background: In the Mediterranean climate, plants have evolved under conditions of low soil-water and nutrient availabilities and have acquired a series of adaptive traits that, in turn exert strong feedback on soil fertility, structure, and protection. [...]

Terpenes confer advantage in plant protection against abiotic stresses such as heat and drought and biotic stresses such as herbivore and pathogen attack. We conducted a screening of leaf mono- and sesquiterpene concentrations in 75 common woody plant species in the rainforest of Danum Valley (Borneo). [...]
