Rice paddies are important sources of atmospheric methane (CH4), where CH4 fluxes are determined by the balance of production and oxidation. While the application of Fe(III) fertilizer is a proven effective strategy for mitigating CH4 emissions from rice paddies, little is known about the role of methanogen and methanotroph communities and their interactions. This paper provides a detailed technological characterization of the Roman opus sectile glasses (second century AD) coming from the renowned Gorga collection. Nine glass samples corresponding to imitations of the porfido verde antico, cipollino rosso, rosso antico, giallo antico, diaspro nero e giallo, semesanto and agate/alabaster stones were studied. We report zero-field routing of spin waves in a multiferroic heterostructure comprising a ferromagnetic Fe film and a ferroelectric BaTiO3 substrate with fully correlated strain-coupled domains. In the Fe film, a regular alternation of magnetic anisotropy produces a back-and-forth rotation of uniform magnetization in zero magnetic field. [...]

Wetland ecosystems have dual functions as both carbon (C) sources and C sinks, playing a vital role in the world's C budget. Wetlands are prone to suffer from plant invasions, and for example, Spartina alterniflora, a well-known invasive species, has rapidly expanded in coastal areas of Asia since 1979 and altered the C cycles in coastal wetland ecosystems. Magnetostriction, known as the ability of magnetic materials to expand or contract in response to magnetic field, is a key property of Fe-Ga alloys exploited in various types of transducers. Usually, thin films of Fe-Ga deposited on rigid substrates suffer from a clamping effect that hinders the propagation of strain. [...]
