An immunochemical strategy to detect and quantify AIP-IV, the quorum sensing (QS) signaling molecule produced by Staphylococcus aureus agr type IV, is reported here for the first time. Theoretical calculations and molecular modeling studies have assisted on the design and synthesis of a suitable peptide hapten (AIPIVS), allowing to obtain high avidity and specific antibodies toward this peptide despite its low molecular weight. Serious infections caused by bacteria that are resistant to commonly used antibiotics have become a major global healthcare problem in the 21st century. Multidrug-resistant bacteria causing severe infections mainly grow in complex bacterial communities known as biofilms, in which bacterial resistance to antibacterial agents and to the host immune system is strengthened. 9 p, 1.6 MB R1 and r2 relaxivities of dendrons based on a oeg-dtpa architecture : Effect of Gd3+ placement and dendron functionalization / Fransen, Peter (Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red de Bioingeniería, Biomateriales y Nanomedicina) ; Pulido, Daniel (Parc Científic de Barcelona) ; Simón Gracia, Lorena (Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red de Bioingeniería, Biomateriales y Nanomedicina) ; Candiota Silveira, Ana Paula (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Institut de Biotecnologia i de Biomedicina "Vicent Villar Palasí") ; Arús i Caraltó, Carles (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Bioquímica i de Biologia Molecular) ; Albericio, Fernando (Universitat de Barcelona. Departament de Química Orgànica) ; Royo, Miriam (Parc Científic de Barcelona)
In magnetic resonance imaging, contrast agents are employed to enhance the signal intensity. However, current commercial contrast agents are hindered by a low relaxivity constant. Dendrimers can be employed to create higher molecular weight contrast agents which have an increased relaxivity due to a lower molecular rotation. [...]
