Abstract:	En este artículo se analizan las tendencias y las incertidumbres que planean sobre el devenir demográfico, un aspecto de candente actualidad por sus repercusiones sobre múltiples esferas de la vida social y económica de nuestro país. La tendencia de fondo a un mayor envejecimiento de la población se ve intensificada en la actual proyección del INE (2014-2064) por los supuestos sobre los que se sustenta: o dicho en otras palabras, a nuestro parecer, otros escenarios son posibles e incluso más previsibles. En este sentido, se abordan tres factores que presentan mayor incertidumbre y que se configuran claves de cara al futuro demográfico. En primer lugar, el efecto que tendría una mayor fecundidad sobre la base de la pirámide poblacional y la población en edad laboral. A continuación, se constata que garantizar a largo plazo unos volúmenes de población ocupada similares a los previos a la crisis económica requeriría, además de altas tasas de participación laboral, de flujos de inmigración claramente superiores a los previstos en la actualidad. finalmente, se analiza la evolución futura de la población mayor a partir del efecto combinado del tamaño de las generaciones y de los avances en la longevidad.
Abstract:	This article analyses current trends and the uncertainties hovering over Spain's demographic future, a matter of great and immediate relevance because of the repercussions in many spheres in the country's social and economic life. The basic tendency of greater population ageing now appears as intensified in the present INE (National Statistics Institute) forecast (2014-2064) given the underlying assumptions. In other words, diferent scenarios are possible and even more foreseeable. Hence, three factors suggesting greater uncertainty and shaping key aspects of the demographic future will be discussed. first, is the effect of greater fertility on the base of the population pyramid and the working-age population. Next, it is confirmed that long-term guarantees of levels of employed population approximating those prior to the economic crisis would require, besides high labour force participation rates, immigration inflows that are clearly greater than those expected at present. finally, the future evolution of the elderly population will be examined from the standpoint of the combined effect of the size of generations and advances in longevity.
