The Tomas Hirschfeld Award is the premier global award for achievements in Near infrared spectroscopy awarded annually by the international council for Near infrared Spectroscopy (ICNIRS).

The Tomas Hirschfeld Award is the premier global award for achievements in Near infrared spectroscopy awarded annually by the international council for Near infrared Spectroscopy (ICNIRS). Named after Dr. Tomas Hirschfeld, a pioneer of NIR spectroscopy, the awardee is selected by the Chaiman’s Advisory Committee of ICNIRS from a pool of candidates nominated by ICNIRS members. Professor Ana Garrido Varo, Chaiperson of the CAC, has announced that the winner of the 2011 Hirschfeld Award is Dr. Marcelo Blanco, Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). Marcelo has been involved in NIR applications research and chemometric method development for almost 20 years in the food, pharmaceutical and other industries. The award presentation and the delivery of his lecture will take place during the NIR-2011 conference in Cape Town, South Africa.
