Resum:	In this brief introductory article, I will address the nature and role of social theory; the main tenets of CRT and finally refute some of the common myths and misunderstandings that CRT's detractors are keen to circulate. Along the way I will illustrate my points with reference to the recent history of race politics and reform in England (for further detail, see Gillborn 2008).
