Signos viejos y nuevos usos : consideraciones sobre la escritura usada en algunos medios de comunicación

Resum:	En este artículo mostraremos cómo signos característicos de sistemas no alfabéticos han aparecido últimamente en textos aparentemente escritos con sistemas alfabéticos, revelando a la vez las carencias de nuestros sistemas y las bondades de otros. Nos referimos a textos como correos electrónicos, chats o SMS, aparecidos en los nuevos medios de comunicación (telefonía móvil y comunicación mediatizada por computadora [CMC], en general). En los últimos años han proliferado los estudios sobre estos cambios, pero hasta el momento se han centrado más en las características morfológicas y léxicas y en su impacto social. Discutiremos sobre las características fonográficas y logográficas de estas secuencias, y nos centraremos en estos peculiares pictogramas denominados 'emoticonos'.
Resum:	In this article we show how signs that are characteristic of non-alphabetic writing systems have begun to appear in texts apparently written in alphabetic systems, which at the same time reveals the weaknesses of our systems when confronted with other types. This is the case with texts like electronic mails, chats or SMS, which appear in the new media (mainly mobile phones and computer mediated communication). In recent years, a number of works have dealt with those changes, mostly focussing on their morphological and lexical features or their social impact. We discuss, instead, their phonographic and logographic features, paying special attention to those peculiar pictographs called 'emoticons'.
