El enfoque biográfico en el análisis social : claves para un estudio de los aspectos teórico-metodológicos de las trayectorias laborales

Abstract:	Este trabajo desarrolla los supuestos que se esconden tras los estudios biográficos, centrándose en los enfoques europeo y norteamericano. Intenta vislumbrar los distintos ámbitos de producción en donde surgieron los fundamentos epistemológicos, teóricos y metodológicos, los cuales enmarcan el análisis de las trayectorias: la centralidad del sujeto, la relación individuo-sociedad, la integración de perspectivas metodológicas y la importancia de la dimensión espacio-temporal. La relevancia de esta tarea radica en que el enfoque biográfico se constituye como telón de fondo en el estudio de las trayectorias laborales. En el primer apartado se indagan los orígenes del uso de biografías en la investigación social; en el segundo y el tercero, se examinan los supuestos centrales del enfoque biográfico y del curso de vida, al encontrar en ellos las raíces que encuadran y dan sentido al estudio de las trayectorias. Por último, se desarrollan los aportes y potencialidades de los estudios con trayectorias laborales a través del análisis de un corpus de investigaciones empíricas producidas en América Latina.
Abstract:	The article develops the assumptions that underlie biographical studies, concentrating on European and American approaches. It attempts to identify the different spheres of production that gave rise to the epistemological, theoretical, and methodological foundations in which the analysis of trajectories is framed: the centrality of the subject, the relations between individual and society, the integration of methodological perspectives, and the importance of the space-time dimension. The relevance of this task has to do with the fact that the biographical approach serves as the backdrop for the study of career paths. The first section of the article inquires into the origins of the use of biographies in social research; and the second and third sections examine the main assumptions of the biographical and life course approaches, since they provide the grounding that frames and gives meaning to the study of career paths. Finally, the article develops the contributions and potentialities of career path studies through the analysis of a corpus of empirical research carried out in Latin America.
