| Abstract: |
Pragmatic markers pose a challenge for professional translators, since they are signs of fictive orality, i. e. a literary device whereby authors try to confer plausibility to their dialogue. Scarce studies have been devoted to the literary translation of these units from German into Catalan. The goal of the present corpus-based study is to explore the behaviour and translation of two specific markers, i. e. also and na, in Hans Fallada's novel Jeder stirbt für sich allein (1946) and Monton's translation of the text (2011), from both a qualitative and a quantitative approach. Pragmatic annotation has been undertaken for all of the occurrences of each marker, as well as the solutions provided, in order to account for patterns in the literary usage and translation of these units. |
