La guerra civil española de 1833-1840 tuvo también un carácter internacional. Los estados europeos se interesaron por la evolución del conflicto, e intervinieron activamente en el mismo en apoyo del gobierno español o del carlismo. Este último movimiento recibió un apoyo considerable de las potencias y movimientos absolutistas europeos. De ellos recibió personal, suministros de guerra y grandes cantidades de dinero que sirvieron para financiar el mantenimiento del ejército del pretendiente y sus operaciones militares. Sin tales apoyos, la guerra posiblemente no se habría alargado tanto como lo hizo. El carlismo recibió un apoyo especialmente intenso de diversos estados italianos. Alertados estos por la influencia que el liberalismo español había tenido en los movimientos revolucionarios italianos, y pretendiendo colocar un dique de contención ante lo que consideraban una amenaza contra sus tronos, muchos monarcas italianos destacaron por su colaboración con don Carlos. De entre todos ellos, Carlo Alberto de Cerdeña fue uno de quienes más se implicaron en ayudar a la contra revolución española y europea, hasta el punto de llegar a romper relaciones con España, y preparar una intervención militar en la Península. En el presente trabajo, mostramos la evolución del conflicto entre España y Cerdeña, los pasos que el monarca sardo dio para tratar de asegurar la victoria carlista y la importancia que todo ello tuvo para alargar el conflicto, así como la gran dependencia del carlismo español de las ayudas que recibía desde el extranjero, hasta que la imposibilidad de la victoria del pretendiente hizo evidente la futilidad de dichos subsidios. |

The Spanish civil war of 1833-1840 had also an international nature. The European states took an interest in the conflict's evolution, and they actively intervened in it supporting the Spanish government or the Carlists. This movement received a considerable support from the European absolutist powers and movements. From them it received personnel, war supplies and large quantities of money that were used to finance the pretender's army's maintenance and its military operations. Without said support, the war probably wouldn't have lasted as long as it did. Carlism received an especially intense support from numerous Italian states. Alerted by the influence that Spanish liberalism had had in the Italian revolutionary movements, and hoping to create a dyke against what they considered a danger to their thrones, a lot of Italian monarchs stood out for their collaboration with don Carlos. Amongst them, Carlo Alberto of Sardinia did especially involve himself in helping the Spanish and European counter revolution, to the point of breaking off diplomatic relations with Spain, and preparing a military intervention in the Iberian Peninsula. In this work, we show the evolution of the conflict between Spain and Sardinia, the steps the Sardinian monarch took to try and assure the Carlist victory and the importance that all of this had in extending the conflict, and at the same time the large dependence of the Spanish Carlists of the foreign support they received, until their inability to ensure their victory made apparent the futility of that support. |
