L'objectiu principal d'aquesta tesi doctoral és realitzar un estudi de la identitat col·lectiva dels catalans a les èpoques medieval i moderna. Per aconseguir-ho, el nostre estudi es divideix en tres capítols: en primer lloc, examinem què foren políticament les tres grans comunitats del període baixmedieval i modern que englobaven el poble català: Catalunya, la Corona d'Aragó i la Monarquia d'Espanya. En segon lloc, efectuem un estudi històric de les diferents característiques que resultaven més rellevants per a la definició i diferenciació dels catalans, entre finals del segle XII i inicis del segle XVIII, en relació amb la resta de col·lectius humans, atenent a l'adscripció i identificació del col·lectiu amb el seu territori, la seva religió, la llengua, la legislació per la qual es regien, la relació amb el seu príncep sobirà, així com amb la resta d'institucions generals del Principat de Catalunya i dels Comtats de Rosselló i Cerdanya, sense negligir pas la relació envers els súbdits dels altres regnes del seu monarca i els pobles i poders aliens al domini d'aquest. En tercer lloc, ja centrant-nos en el període del canvi dinàstic i la guerra successòria (1700-1714), duem a terme una anàlisi quantitativa, semàntica i comparativa dels conceptes «Catalunya», «Espanya», «principat», «monarquia», «pàtria» i «nació», a partir del buidatge dels dietaris de la Diputació del General i del Consell de Cent. D'aquesta manera, investiguem uns conceptes intrínsecs al fet identitari català del període, en unes fonts que ens permeten copsar una idea aproximada d'allò que significava aquest vocabulari per a la classe rectora de Catalunya. |

The main objective of this doctoral thesis is to carry out a study of the collective identity of the Catalans in the medieval and modern eras. To achieve this, our study is divided into three chapters: first, we examine what were politically the three great communities of the low medieval and modern period that encompassed the Catalan people: Catalonia, the Crown of Aragon and the Monarchy of Spain. Secondly, we carry out a historical study of the different characteristics which were most relevant for the definition and differentiation of the Catalans, between the end of the 12th century and the beginning of the 18th, in relation to the rest of human collectives, the association and identification of the group with its territory, its religion, language, the legislation governing its relationship with its sovereign prince, as well as with the rest of the general institutions of the Principality of Catalonia and of the counties of Rosselló and Cerdanya, without neglecting the relation to the subjects of the other kingdoms of his monarch and the peoples and powers alien to his rule. Thirdly, focusing on the period of dynastic change and succession war (1700-1714), we carry out a quantitative, semantic and comparative analysis of the concepts «Catalonia», «Spain», «principality», «monarchy», «homeland» and «nation», as of the emptying of the diaries of the Diputació del General and the Consell de Cent. In this way, we investigate some intrinsic concepts of the Catalan identity of the period, in sources that allow us to grasp an approximate idea of what this vocabulary meant for the ruling class of Catalonia. |
