Data: 1997
Resum: This paper draws on the results of a study of the internationalization practices of Japanese universities (including four year colleges) with majors in Humanities, Social Sciences or Education. It provides a sketch of the policy of internationalization in Japan and how this is interpreted by universities there. It also looks at the ways the policy is translated into practice in terms of a number of dimensions. These include the numbers of students involved, types of programs operating, the goals they address, their organization and growth. Some examples of new approaches to international exchange of students are described.
