Violencia mítica y legitimidad social

Abstract:	El trabajo propone una caracterización semiótica del mito como violenta fundación de la legitimidad social. Para ello analiza un relato bíblico, el de Cain y Abel. Considera además un caso psicoanalítico que esclarece el mecanismo semiótico de transvaloración: el modelo triádico de Peirce agrega a la dimensión referencial otra evaluativa, que es la base de la que se considera normal y anormal en toda comunidad. Lejos de ser una reliquia del pensamiento primitivo, el mito se concibe como un aspecto central del desarrollo tendencial del sentido. Tal es el funcionamiento teleológico de la acción sígnica o semiosis, algo que es ignorada a menudo al considerar la teoría de representación de Peirce.
Abstract:	The paper gives a semiotic characterization of myth as the violent foundation of social legitimacy. To do so, it analyzes a biblical narrative, the Cain and Abel story. It also brings into consideration a psychoanalytic case which throws light on the semiotic mechanism of transvaluation: the triadic model of Peircean semiotic adds to the referential dimension an evaluative one, which is the basis of what is deemed to be normal and abnormal in every community. Far from being a relic of primitive thinking, myth is construed as a central aspect of the tendential development of meaning. Such is the teleological functioning of sign action or semiosis, something which is often overlooked when discussing Peirce's theory of representation.
