La représentation fictionnelle du traducteur amateur chez David Mitchell

Resumen:	Cet article propose une étude comparative des protagonistes respectifs de Black Swan Green et The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet, deux romans de l'écrivain britannique David Mitchell, sous l'angle du tournant fictionnel de la traduction. Bien que les personnages n'aient à priori aucun lien, l'un étant un adolescent dans l'Angleterre de l'ère Thatcher, l'autre un clerc de notaire hollandais dans le Japon du XVIIème siècle, tous deux se retrouveront poussés à traduire un texte pour la première fois de leur vie. Nous examinerons donc la représentation relativement peu explorée de la figure du traducteur amateur dans la fiction, et analyserons les nombreuses thématiques et parallélismes présents dans la narration de David Mitchell sur le processus de la traduction - son aspect transgressif, transformateur, transcendant - qui offrent une vision cohérente de l'acte de traduire dans son oeuvre.
Resumen:	This article presents a comparative study of the respective protagonists of two novels by British writer David Mitchell, Black Swan Green and The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet, through the prism of the fictional turn of translation. Although these characters do not appear to share any link, one being a teenager from Thatcher-era England and the other a Dutch clerk from 17th century Japan, both will end up having to translate a text for the first time in their life. We will then examine the rarely explored figure of the amateur translator in fiction, and reveal the numerous themes and parallels provided by David Mitchell's narration on the translation process - its transgressive, transforming, transcending aspects - which end up giving a coherent picture of the act of translating throughout his works.
