Abstract:	El artículo presenta una autorreflexión sobre el alcance social del trabajo de investigación social a partir del material conseguido lo largo de más de diez años -en especial primera década del siglo XXI- de trabajo de campo sobre la comunidad china en territorio catalán. Partiendo de la contextualización social y mediática durante la realización del trabajo de campo, la autora conecta y problematiza distintas situaciones y experiencias profesionales con los conceptos teóricos sobre el contacto entre culturas, y pone de manifiesto la necesidad social y académica de distinguir los conceptos de diversidad y diferencia.
Abstract:	This article presents a self-reflection on the social scope of social research work based on the material obtained over more than ten years -especially the first decade of the 21st century- of fieldwork on the Chinese community in Catalonia. Starting from the social and media contextualization during the realization of the fieldwork, the author connects and problematizes different situations and professional experiences with the theoretical concepts about the contact between cultures, and shows the social and academic need to distinguish the concepts of diversity and difference.
